regenerative Revolution
We’ve always tried to push what’s possible when it comes to sustainability.
We are the first closed loop olive oil company in Europe and now we’re the first fully certified regenerative olive grove too!
Regenerative is a word that’s thrown about a lot these days so what does it actually mean?
let’s talk regenerative
What is Regenerative olive farming?
Doesn’t all farming do that?
No. Most olive farming depletes the land over time. Regenerative farming actively restores it.
Everything seems to be regenerative now, isn’t it just a buzzword?
No! It’s potentially the biggest change to farming methods in decades. That’s why we decided to become officially certified. No greenwashing here.
What’s the difference between organic and Regenerative farming?
Organic farming avoids chemicals. Regenerative actively heals the soil and the ecosystem. We do both.
Why does the soil need looking after anyway?
Healthy soil grows our food, cleans our water, stores carbon and supports life.
What happens when the soil is left depleted?
A lot of Greek olive groves now have to rely on chemical fertilisers. Over reliance on these leads to desertification!
What can I do to help?
Choose food from certified regenerative producers. Buy from zero waste shops when you can. Find them HERE
Let’s talk olive oil:
WORKING WITH NATURE
We worked with a certifier, Foodchain, to prove what we’ve been doing for years. Working with nature, not exploiting it.
That meant:
- Planting indigenous wildflowers around the trees
- Hand-pruning each tree
- Planting native shrubs to bring back birds and bees
- Waiting. Not for the certification but for the fruits of our labours to come good.
